V.I.D.A.M.

Dance.  Listen.  Improvise.

Each VIDAM event features at least one veteran improvisational musician to collaborate with dancers - filling the space with inspiration for movement, composition, and focus.

Musician and dancers collaborate in filling the space with inspiration for movement, expression, surprise and delight.

Our aim is to create an open space where ALL ARE WELCOME to be a part of the evening - on any level that feels comfortable.

UPCOMING

Mike Vargas

began playing music in 1959.  His curiosity and love of collaboration have led him through many contexts and cultures, from cocktail lounges in Indonesia to New York’s Lower East Side, from cancer wards to the Kennedy Center, from New Music America to Playback Theater. He started specializing in music for dance in 1978 and continues to collaborate regularly with bodies moving in space. He works as a freelance composer across the USA and internationally, performing, teaching, recording, and improvising.  For the last twelve years, he has been teaching and performing with Nancy Stark Smith.  He teaches on the faculty of the Smith College dance department.  He has released 9 CDs.

Drummer and percussionist Bob Weiner has toured and performed with Harry Belafonte, Itzhak Perlman, Betty Buckley, Jon Lucien, Dianne Reeves, Andy Statman, Rebecca Paris, Kenny Werner, Bob Moses and many others. He has taught at the Drummers Collective (New York, NY) , New England Conservatory (Boston, MA) and Berklee College of Music ( Boston, MA). He currently plays at Earthdance for Contact Improvisation Jams, and with many movement/dance formats. Bob has co-authored two important percussion books, “Afro-Cuban Rhythms for Drumset” with Frank Malabe and “Brazilian Rhythms for Drumset” with Duduka da Fonseca (Alfred Music).
